From the period sources

Arthur Battelle Whiting, an American composer, studied in Boston before pursuing further training in Munich. He was a concert-pianist in Boston from 1880 and later in New York, beginning in 1895, where he devoted himself significantly to lecturing and to presenting eighteenth-century keyboard music, according to Grove’s Dictionary of Music and Musicians: American Supplement (1920). Whiting, a nephew of the organist and composer George E. Whiting, made “praiseworthy contributions to music in most of what I may call its social forms (chamber music, pianoforte pieces and songs),” as noted in Famous Composers and Their Works (1891). His most notable achievement was a D minor concerto, which he performed at “high-class concerts” in both Boston and New York. The prominent publisher G. Schirmer also issued works by Arthur Whiting, alongside other American composers such as Dudley Buck and Horatio W. Parker, as recorded in Grove’s Dictionary of Music and Musicians (1908).
