From the period sources

Ludvig Schytte, born in Aarhus, Jutland, Denmark, initially pursued a career as a chemist before dedicating himself to music in 1870, according to Grove’s Dictionary of Music and Musicians (1922). He studied pianoforte with Anton Ree and Edmund Neupert, composition with Gebauer and Gade, and further refined his skills with Taubert in Berlin and Liszt in Weimar. Schytte was distinguished as a player, composer, and teacher, holding one of the advanced piano classes at Horak’s Academy in Vienna in 1887-88, and residing there thereafter. His industry yielded a large number of graceful and effective pianoforte compositions, many of which, like his Op. 22 “Naturstimmungen” and Op. 30 “Pantomimen” for piano duet, became widely popular. He also composed a piano concerto (Op. 28) and a song cycle, “Die Verlassene.” While his comic opera Fahrendes Volk was not performed, his one-act opera Hero premiered in Copenhagen in 1898, and the operetta Der Mameluk was given in Vienna in 1903, as noted by Grove’s (1922) and the Dictionary of Music (1908). Schytte’s influence extended to pedagogy; he taught Géza Horváth, who later directed a private music school in Vienna, and collaborated with the distinguished pianist Moriz Rosenthal on “Technical Studies for the Highest Degree of Development,” a work mentioned in A Biographical Dictionary of Musicians (1900). Among younger Scandinavian composers, Louis Schytte was noted by Famous Composers and Their Works (1891) for showing the influence of Mendelssohn and Grieg in his works.
