From the period sources

Ethelbert Nevin, who died in New Haven, Connecticut, on February 17, 1901, was regarded by his contemporaries as a significant American voice. A Biographical Dictionary of Musicians (1905) records that in his passing, “America lost a song-composer of marked individuality and power.” His contributions to the genre included the song-cycles “In Arcady” and “The Quest of Heart’s Desire,” which are specifically noted among his works.
