Historical context

According to the book from 1833, this pianoforte fantasia in F sharp minor was composed in Berlin in 1833. As Felix Mendelssohn Bartholdy mentioned in 1834, his fantasia in F sharp minor, Op. 28, was about to be published that January. He also noted that on the autograph, the work was entitled “Sonate Ecossaise.”
