How to play
Historical context
In a letter dated March 31st, 1868, Liszt suggested a specific piece for Stade to perform. He recommended that Stade might choose to play the “Variations on the Basso continuo of Bach’s Cantata ‘Weinen, sorgen, seufzen, klagen’” as one of his organ pieces, clearly indicating the work’s inspiration and its potential for performance.
