Historical context

The form of the musical suite, a collection of movements often derived from dances, found a significant early articulation in the work of Froberger. One of his Suites, which Nottebohm states was written in 1649, holds particular historical importance. This specific work occasionally features an order of four movements that later served as the nucleus in a large proportion of mature suites, establishing a foundational structure for the genre.
