Louis Edmond Durey, a French impressionistic composer born in 1888, was actively writing music by 1914, according to The New Encyclopedia of Music and Musicians (1924). His early works included an orchestral Pastorale, a string quartet, a string trio, and a piano trio. Durey also composed the choral work Hloges and numerous songs, some of which featured orchestral or ensemble accompaniment. By 1924, he was identified as a member of the “ultra-modern group known as ‘The Six’,” alongside Arthur Honegger, Auric, Milhaud, Poulenc, and Taillefer, as noted in the same encyclopedia.
