Vincent Adler, a pianist and composer, was born in Raab, Hungary, on April 3, 1826, though some sources, such as the Biographical Dictionary of Musicians (1886), record his birth year as 1828. He received his early musical training from his father and from Erkel in Pesth, later continuing his studies in Vienna and Paris. By 1865, Adler had become a professor at the Geneva Conservatory, a position he held until his death in Geneva on January 4, 1871. His compositions, which include works like the Valse rococo (Op. 11), Feuilles d’Album (Op. 13), and Grande Marche (Op. 24), were primarily for piano. According to the Biographical Dictionary of Musicians (1886), Adler’s works belonged to the same school as those of Ascher and Heller, characterized as “light, pleasing efforts, with some originality and much careful, as well as skilful, elaboration.” His published output also included chamber music, songs, and a cantata.
